If you are a senior pet owner who is homebound and on a fixed income--or know of a pet owner who is in this situation--there is a way to apply for assistance through the Meals on Wheels "We All Love Our Pets" (WALOP) program. Pets, like their humans, need nutritious meals to stay healthy--for this reason, Meals on Wheels teamed up with Banfield Charitable Trust to provide food for pet parents in need. Here are the steps to getting pet food delivered monthly for your best friend.
To qualify for free pet food and delivery, you must already be eligible to receive Meals on Wheels service for yourself.2
Find a Meals on Wheels program near you by visiting mealcall.org (see link in Resources below).3
Click on Search meal program locations.4
Choose your state from the drop-down menu and then click on your city. It will list the senior meal programs in your area and specify whether or not they offer delivery service. It will also include their phone number. Call them and see how to apply for service.5
If you do not find a location in your area, click on Contact Us at the bottom of the page. It will ask you to fill out some information including your address, city and email address. They will try to provide you with assistance.6
You can also do an Internet search of "Meals on Wheels" along with your city and see what comes up. If something does come up in your area, it will normally include a phone number for you to contact them.
